Notch in Salem and Brighton, Massachusetts has for years been carefully executing tightly construction Czech- and German-style lagers as well as lower ABV pale ales—the vast majority of their beers clock in between 4 and 5% ABV—and recently expanded their lineup with NA beers that include Craft Pils, Blonde, and Hazy IPA. Founder Chris Lohring is a well-known stickler for details and process, and will share what he learned through that process of development.
Recipe: Notch DesítkaFirst brewed for Notch’s 10th anniversary in 2020, this is a 10°P pale lager in the Czech tradition—low in strength yet full of flavor. The beer is triple-decocted, open-fermented, naturally carbonated, and “lagered forever.”
